I Hear Birds

I Hear Birds

Aicha Therese

When sat in my living room,

or bathroom,

or bedroom,

With nothing but my ancestors as a presence,

The only fill of silence that occurs is the chirping of birds,

For many, there is a constant fill of silence, with the sound of bombs.

But for me, birds.

Must be a curse,

What did those people do,

To end up in a reality where you can't go to school,

Because that school is now rubble, dust, and rocks,

Uprooting from the earth's crust,

Leaving nothing but, loss,

And rubble, and your community, and your family, and your friends,

It's like the cycle never ends,

Villains causing chaos,

Calling themselves heroic.
