4 Couples Share How Their Partner

Has Influenced The Way They Dress

A series of outfits that displays how the way we dress is a reflection of the people we love.

Four couples share how falling in love has influenced their fashion choices, outlining the way in which clothes act as a means through which to express our love for one another - and take a little piece of our partner with us into the day.

Lara & Ty

Lara : “Ty’s style is a 70s rockstar meets pearls and loafers. His love for more feminine clothes, like fitted flares and smaller T-shirt’s means I can borrow nearly everything in his closet. Instead of looking like I’ve slept over at my boyfriends and am now wearing a huge hoodie, I can borrow his jeans and a t-shirt and still look pretty good. I love the way he dresses and looks effortlessly cool.”

Ty : “When we first started dating Lara made me a Pearl necklace and since then I wear it everyday. She loves to shop and so do I but Lara likes to spend all her money on clothes which was something I was always more cautious of until now. I bought a Prada bomber with a fur collar the other day which we can blame her for. We love to shop together and I think both our styles have evolved together over the past few months. We’ve subconsciously found our own combination of styles and tend to accidentally dress the same occasionally, but I love it. “

Honey & Zane

Honey : “I love how Zane can look so chic but I also know he’s the most comfy. He’s definitely influenced me to find ways of looking good whilst also feeling fully cozy.

We weirdly always end up in matching colours without coordinating it, because we both really love bold colour. I always love putting together an outfit with a ridiculous bright pattern and knowing Zane will most likely show up with a beautiful jacket matching whatever I’m wearing - like magic. Truly science can’t explain this phenomenon, but I’m truly grateful to have a partner who isn’t afraid to make a statement through their clothes, and somehow always seems to be the same statement I’m trying to make.”

Zane : “Few things on this earth feel as right as turning up to your partners house for a romantic evening out, to find yourself matching  in exquisite complimentary garments, with no prior outfit discussion! Honey’s love of all things stylishly comfortable fits perfectly in line with my love of expressive colours and patterns, so together we look like we’re stepping right off the catwalk and into bed.

Time spent out together is truly permission to be ourselves out in public, whether it’s laughing at dinner or screaming in excitement at the drive in cinema, it’s great to know we always look spectacular while we’re at it!”

Remi & O’Sha

Remi : “I feel like I’ve always dressed really safe and in my comfort zone (all black and baggy clothes) but since being with O’sha I have felt more comfortable to experiment more with what I wear and how I present myself to the world. I was so excited when I first saw osha’s wardrobe and all the colours, now I’m finding myself wanting to wear more bright and exciting colours and stand out more.”

O’sha : “I’ve always played with clothes as a way to express how I feel. Sometimes that’s a reflection of my gender and queerness, dressing more masc or femme depending on the day. But often it’s also just how vibrant I’m feeling, how causal, how colourful. meeting Remi has been such a supportive and loving experience. No matter what I’m wearing as I walk out the house, they’re always teaching me to be comfortable in my skin and presentation. It’s allowed me to be eccentric, relaxed, as big or small as I wish in front of another person and get excited about that exploration, rather then afraid.”

MEg & Luca

Meg : “Streetwear-sporty-dad-chic epitomises Luca’s fashion makeup. We bonded over thrifting. One of our first day trips together was to a car boot just outside of Manchester where we dived for designer gems and searched for cardigan-chic stylings. Luca’s fashion is always standout. He’s a basketball player so the caps, Jordans and the hooper shorts are a regular occurrence. This is quite different to my prairie-girl-90swannabe-vibe but I’ve taken notes and amalgamated his genius into my own understanding. When I say amalgamated I mean stolen. His green cardigan is my most loved new accessory. The first gift he ever got me was a great assimilation of our styles. The Nike tracksuit bottoms were made of a suede touch material with neon zip panelling - a perfect marriage of sus materials and streetwear chic.”

Luca : “From the initial immaculately palleted cowboy boots on her hinge profile to the staple DKNY monogram bag, Meg’s style has always been something of a focal point for my mind to converse and appreciate.

Since meeting her I’ve tried to lay off the sportswear and baggy fits, opting to swap the nylon for knit and the gore tex for plaid. However it’s hard to let go of some habits and the ball shorts and Jordan’s always manage to find their way back into the weekly rotation, a notion that Meg supports and encompasses with talks of Bristol’s most chic prairie girl even copping her own pair or Jordan 4s in the near future.

Meg’s viewpoint on sustainability in fashion, that was outlined on the first date, was a big turn on for me. Her quick and rightful slander of the fast-fashion conglomerates that seem to be engulfing the minds and consciousnesses of the modern youth cemented my consensus that this lady wasn’t your typical prettylittlething girl.
